18 - . Awake girl that we go out

Finally it's time to move the body .

LET GO ... to wake up !

After a long sleep, we will take the body to the workshop Gonzalo to mount the motor.

The RAC again moved the car , this time to the final encounter with the motor.

Special mention to the crane drivers RAC . The car has been out twice and entered the parking once throughout the repair , it's like put it down the drain of a sink, without brakes or motor. They did it without changing the color of the columns at the expense of the body of Triumph , again thanks RAC! .

Both the engine and chassis have changed dramatically since the beginning of the adventure :

But the day we still had prepared a nasty surprise ...

When we tried to get the thrust bearing embraque Press , has proved impossible, the locking screw of the yoke was broken on the inside and has forced us to remove the gearbox to try to find a solution.

Can the solution go through having to replace the fork shaft and clutch fork ... cutting it with a circular ?

It was a major setback ... continue.

17 - . Closing the engine

Mounting the rocker shaft . View on YouTube

                                       video.     Ver en YouTub

The engine is still resting on the base of the block . Foul mount the oil pump and close the crankcase.

Ahead is pending mount the water pump and the cooling circuit .

Undesirable effect on the allocation of effort

When mounting the standard rocker , the contact between the rocker and the valve does not occur in the center of the base of the swing, popping an unwanted pair .

A meticulous work of Gonzalo , adding thin steel washers allow a perfect centering, removed unnecessary torsion pairs in the effort rocker who just passed on the bearings and the rocker arm , causing more wear .

Efecto no deseado en el reparto de esfuerzo

Closed the valve cover and painted the engine red.
It was originally painted blue , as was the body of the Triumph .
Now that the car is green , I decided to paint the engine red in memory of my old Amazon , and remember those who knew me with my Volvo 122S Amazón .

In the front picture the new water pump assembly is appreciated.
The left side with the new oil filter and fuel pump .

Right , ready to mount the exhaust manifold and intake manifold with Webber carburetors.
On the left side of the tap step of heating is observed. Is mounted faucet original Triumph , as the old engine had adapted one of SEAT .

Back view without the disc without press clutch , even you can see the rear crankshaft seal .

With the clutch and the engine assembled and ready to be installed in the chassis.

The engine has been greatly improved compared to how it left the factory over 50 years ago :
  • Bring reinforced aluminum cylinder head with valves for unleaded
  • Has improved lubrication and cooling of the top with the by-pass
  • A detent in the rear of the crankshaft to prevent oil leaks
  • Carry a clutch diaphragm much better than the original 3 support
  • Carter finned aluminum bottom provides better cooling .

it  is ready to be installed in the car ... morning May 16 is the day D

16 - . Rocker lost Mystery

This page should not have appeared on the blog but the reality is imposed.

When we went to mount the rocker arm  Oh surprise! only had 7 rockers 3 right and 4 left . To the surprise proceeded to ask Bastuck a right swing .

From this moment every time we asked for a right rocker appeared a left swing . As a precaution we asked a couple of right / left rocker , gave us a couple of rockers left , until we accumulate enough rocker to add a nursery

Even turn to Anglo Parts hoping to undo the curse , but we got a new pair of rockers
 LEFT!.

Already in the offices of Anglo Parts Josep Pla street corner we got on the table a complete pair of rockers .

Throughout the bus ride to the workshop Gonzalo not lost sight of the rockers suspected that due to a supernatural effect outside the scientific understanding , in the north-south movement , a right rocker could be transmuted into left one.

Finally I managed to get to the workshop with the desired rocker Gonzalo , without any right rocker had become left without any left rocker had become law even without that I myself have become a rocker.

Sunsets and things are already in a position to close out the engine and move to the next stage :

- Remove the old shaft mount rocker arms and the whole , with the new rockers on the new shaft.

15 -. Complete Boarding, closing doors

Now came the oil pump, and all the material we have on board to start the engine mount.

Mounted the new rear crankshaft seal, started riding liner set and new pistons.

Photos of the assembly process. The head gasket has spent 24 hours soaking increased when flexibility and ensure the best fit.

Putting the head gasket 24 hours to soak for easy installation.

14 - . Again the engine. . Grinding End stage and lightening

! Remember this picture !
In Chapter 17 we will see another color

The engine is out of the grinder, is set with the new crankshaft bearings oversize and com camshaft and rear bearing . The pistons and liners have their original measure 86 mm , the crankshaft connecting rod bearings have been adjusted on a + 0.20 and the main bearing crankshaft to +0.30.

The rear bearing modern installation , instead of stuffing original, has required the crankshaft lower at 63.5 mm , which will eliminate the typical oil drips back into the engine .

Crankshaft with the back machined

They also drill new holes to hold the clutch diaphragm and has been used to reduce flywheel weight about 2 kg . This is important as it reduces inertia , both in acceleration and braking.

Replacing three-point clutch pressure by diaphragm TR4A model provides a smoother and gradual behavior .

In the picture we can see the new diaphragm clutch and flywheel faced about once balanced and poised .

To brake , it is customary not to step on the clutch to get the engine braking of a 4-stroke engine . However, the rotational inertia of two heavy elements such as the crankshaft and flywheel play against and transmit its drive wheels. The decision of the clutch or braking driving is a decision that at a given time can be best done under braking to the limit.

Reduce weight flywheel and crankshaft without compromising its sturdiness , it is a good option to give greater elasticity to the motor ( up and down turns with agility ) and reduce the inertial effect . Two kg weight less turning 40 times per second ( 2000/3000 rpm ) which represent a considerable inertia is also transmitted to the wheels.

Once machined flywheel , another action taken in this phase has been to balance the camshaft , crankshaft and flywheel in order to remove all eccentric behaviors .

Equilibration is obtained with the cranks in the linear motion to transmit full power balanced circular rotation to the crankshaft and flywheel about its longitudinal axis of rotation , eliminating all behaviors involving elliptical performance loss , a higher vibration and increased mechanical wear .

Not lightened weight or rods or crankshaft because it is not competing with this engine , plus the rotational kinetic energy is proportional to the moment of inertia and the square of the angular velocity . The Triumph will not have to turn too many turns . The moment of inertia is proportional to mass and the square of the radius of the disk, where the inertial effect is most noticeable in the flywheel as it has a considerable size .

Not so with the neighboring bank beside a SEAT 1430, engine 2000 , that this boy if he expected a harder life since it will compete in hill climbs for sport classics. I show pictures of what makes Gonzalo Delta - Carburació .

THESE ARE NOT THE TRIUMPH CRANK are a SEAT 1430/2000 engine , you can see the difference between the original state and lightened , not only are able to eliminate weight but also reduce stress concentrations that accumulate in the corners .

Now we just need to put every piece in place ....

End of Chapter XIV, the next chapter " Engine Assembly " do not miss ... if you look at the end works again .

Meanwhile you have to wait for the new oil pump , new front bearing rocker arms and camshaft .
